In March 2007, Sagawa Express celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding. Since its launch as a package delivery business between Kyoto and Osaka in 1957, Sagawa Express has proudly kept alive the spirit of hikyaku (Edo Period foot couriers) and sustained a solid commitment to wholeheartedly deliver packages entrusted by our customers along with the "customer's heart." While inheriting the hikyaku spirit, a basic philosophy behind our founding, we took the opportunity of our 50th anniversary to renew our company's "hikyaku" logo and the uniform of our sales drivers to show our renewed commitment to pursue our service's development and innovation in response to the rapidly changing market environment and increasingly diverse customer needs.
With the transportation and logistics industry recently undergoing dramatic changes, from production distribution to consumption distribution, emphasis has shifted in demand from simple transport services to more efficient/streamlined transport services.
To accommodate such changes in the market environment and address the resulting challenges, in March 2006 Sagawa Express Group changed to a pure holding company structure under the name SG Holdings Co., Ltd. Its purposes are to increase operational efficiency by completely separating business strategy development/administrative functions from executive functions, and to further enhance corporate governance, including operating company assessment and effective management resource allocation. In March 2007, moreover, we developed and launched a new three-year medium-term business plan with an eye toward the next decade of the SG Holdings Group.
To achieve the goals set forth in the new medium-term business plan, as a core operating business of the SG Holdings Group, we will continuously strive to strengthen and expand our door-to-door delivery service and be a total logistics solutions provider in cooperation with our group companies. We also endeavor to be a company trusted and preferred by all stakeholders by further promoting environmental conservation activities and social responsibilities.
